I felt like I sleepwalked through today.

For once, I’m actually ready to make the drive back to Sodom by the Bay tomorrow. I’m not reluctant to leave like I usually am after time spent here on break. Notwithstanding all the report-writing, it was a stellar spring break. Good times.

Now if I could only find the Trash Can Sinatras CD that has the song, How Can I Apply

What’s That Smell?

So, I was driving home with ylin and danaY after a night in Pasadena. We were cruising east on the 210 when Weili turns to me with a maniacal look on her face. Do you smell that? It smells like ammonia! she kept saying, over and over again. Each time, her voice got louder and louder. It’s like someone washed your engine with ammonia! I dismissed her alarm because I was exhausted out of my mind and had been slow on the uptake for the last few hours. I smelled the ammonia, too, but thought it was coming from outside the car somehow. After quite a bit of loud discussion and a lot of prodding from Weili and Dana (who was sitting in the back seat), I remembered that I had a bottle of Windex in my trunk. It had been rolling around back there on the way to Pasadena. I pulled off the freeway, stopped in a residential street in Covina and opened my trunk. The smell of ammonia hit me in the face like a pile of bricks. I laid my hand on the upholstered floor of my trunk to find it soaking wet and then sheepishly lifted the Windex bottle up to the light to find it almost empty (whereas earlier it had been three-quarters full). Screams and howls of laughter ensued as I sopped up the wet chemical mess. Weili’s voice is still ringing in my head, And you thought I was crazy!

I’m never going to hear the end of this. Weili and Dana will turn to each other periodically for the next six months and say, Remember the night when Michelle tried to poison us with ammonia??

La Lucie at Diedrich’s and Morning Becomes Eclectic streaming through my iBook. Don’t know what could constitute a better morning. How about some productivity thrown in there. Oh yeah. Penultimate day of spring break and things are coming together for me, report-wise. It’s a nice feeling.

Just got the new Iron and Wine. So good.

Knitting and guns. Funny to see the trends these days.

Whew. One down, three and a half more to go. Reports, that is. I am enjoying my spring break, but I’m also sloshing around in a bog of reports to do for my internship. That’s right, I’m doing actual work during spring break! I’ve been having fun in between, tho. Really I am. All distractions are welcome this week.

Nate, begotten of Mark and Andrea, swung by Diedrich’s for a little visit. He graced Diedrich’s floor with his little steps and then got onto my iBook, attempting to write an essay (“hnnnnnxxx” was the final draft) and later demonstrating proficiency in Expose. What a genius! He’s going to be a Mac user when he grows up, for sure. You can see it in his dark, pensive eyes.

He’s such a cool, chill little person (already)! I can’t believe how much he’s grown in such a short amount of time. It was great to see Mark and Andrea–I don’t see them enough when I’m down here! Hint, hint, guys.

There and about.

Stats on my drive from SF to LA today:

Number of Oregon plates seen: 25
Subaru Outbacks with Oregon plates: 5
Cows seen: gazillions
Apple stickers on windows: 1
CDs listened to: the Shins x2, Halstead, Peris & Peris, Sam Beam
Dead bugs plastered on my windshield and grill: legions
Number of coconut meringues eaten: way more than one should consume in one sitting

Came home and guess what was waiting for me: 2 lenses for my Canny A-1 that I won on eBay. One is a 28mm and the other is a semi-fish eye converter. Besides the fact that these lenses are rare and are not being manufactured anymore, they were a stellar deal. I already scratched the fish (way to go Mish) but other-wise I am sooo stoked about these lenses. I’m beside myself actually. Can’t wait to shoot some film tomorrow.
